For many years Chrissie Hynde has allowed Rush to use a portion of one of her song's as his show intro contingent upon royalties being donated to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals:
"Hynde gets even more sour at the mention of Rush Limbaugh, who uses a riff from “My City Was Gone” as the theme for his conservative talk radio program. “I was hounded and followed by Americans worldwide, who said ‘You've got to make him stop.' I hadn't even heard the show. Actually so many people told me to take it off, I thought ‘(expletive) it.' I don't have to do what you people want me to do,” she says. “That show doesn't matter to me. I think people are too easily baited. Those talk guys are just part of the gossip culture. Everyone's got opinions on other people.”
Rush recently also recorded a PSA for the Humane Society-without Chrissie’s prompt, for his cat, "Punkin": “When you think of law enforcement and animals, police dogs come to mind,” Rush says. “But law enforcement has another ally in the animal realm and that’s the Humane Society of the United States. I have a cat. That little cat is a treasure to me-Punkin. If anybody harmed Punkin, they would be punished by me.”
While Rush may criticize individuals who seem to place "animal rights" above "human rights", he really does love animals!
