Sarah Palin and Fox News Sell Because Conservatism is Popular!

Rush Limbaugh demonstrates thusly:

"It was just yesterday, Page Six in the New York Post ran a story from an unidentified source who said that nobody wants her. She's a blithering idiot. People are afraid to book her. She can't get request to do a speech. They're asking a hundred grand for speeches she can't get one invitation........then"

"And then the latest news: "A publishing industry source [said] that they 'cannot remember a non-fiction book taking off like this in the pre-order market. It became number one only a couple of hours after nothing more than a date announcement. It is truly unprecedented.'" "Two days after the release date of Sarah Palin's book was announced, it's already become the top seller at both Amazon.com and BarnesAndNoble.com"

It's fair to say that Rush's next statement has been demonstrated as irrefutable:

"Liberals publish books and nobody buys them! Conservatism, if you want to use the popular vernacular, has a whole bunch of stars right now, both media and literary. Where are these liberal stars? Where are these liberal media stars? They're nowhere to be found. Their books don't sell. Their networks don't get ratings. Their magazines are losing circulation."

"So then you ask yourself: "How in the hell did these people win the election?" And then you say: "No, how did these people get ten million votes more than our candidate?" And the answer becomes obvious: Our candidate. Our candidate. This is a story of how we lost the election, how our party squandered a gold mine because they were trying to diminish and get rid of the conservative element of the Republican Party and that's why where we are we are."

David Brooks today on Rush!

For no matter how often their hollowness is exposed, the jocks still reweave the myth of their own power. They still ride the airwaves claiming to speak for millions. They still confuse listeners with voters. And they are aided in this endeavor by their enablers. They are enabled by cynical Democrats, who love to claim that Rush Limbaugh controls the G.O.P. They are enabled by lazy pundits who find it easier to argue with showmen than with people whose opinions are based on knowledge. They are enabled by the slightly educated snobs who believe that Glenn Beck really is the voice of Middle America. They pay more attention to Rush’s imaginary millions than to the real voters down the street. The Republican Party is unpopular because it’s more interested in pleasing Rush’s ghosts than actual people. The party is leaderless right now because nobody has the guts to step outside the rigid parameters enforced by the radio jocks and create a new party identity
