No, not really. So how many of you have eaten in your son or daughter's school
cafeteria lately? Have you asked them how they like the new Michelle
Obama menu? Well, I pack my son a homemade, healthy lunch every day
except on the days they have pizza, which should tell you something.
It's not because he wants an unhealthy alternative, it's because he
doesn't get filled up otherwise. By the time after-school activities
roll around, he is starving if he eats the school lunch. I choose to protect my son from this madness.
So how about the rest of America's kids? A recent survey of school leaders revealed:
— 83.7 percent of school districts saw an increase in plate waste.
— 81.8 percent had an increase in cost.
— 76.5 percent saw a decrease in participation by students.
Our kids probably feel like they are being used as pawns in these ill conceived social experiments. At the very least, the numbers prove the new government standards are not working. Food and money (your money) are being thrown down the drain, literally.
I have an idea. How about if parents teach their children healthy eating habits from a very young age? Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)
