Interesting today from http://brilliantatbreakfast.blogspot.com/2009/10/barack-obama-and-football.html Even before the Rush Limbaugh foofarah, football always seemed like a Republican game, what with its war war metaphors and its barely-suppressed homoeroticism masquerading as a caricature of macho and its bizarre elitist ticketing structure. Baseball, the friendly game that resembles a neighborhood game of tag more than Touch War, always seemed like the liberals' game, despite the relentless parade of guys pointing to the heavens every time they hit a home run. George Carlin explained this dichotomy repeatedly over the years in one of his best recurring routines: "It's sad for those of us that put money on this game, and felt Obama was the best quarterback this country had for taking back our rights and leading us forward in popularity in the eyes of the world. Instead, he has failed to follow the calls made from the sideline, lost yardage and was sacked when he made audibles, and now is forced to punt because the team is not sure they can complete a fourth and ten on the fifty yard line with their true health care reform play."
Non-Rush but worth 5 minutes: George Carlin compares baseball with football...
An obscure blogger unearths some pages of President Obama's college thesis. The report supposedly comes from big-time journalist Joe Klein of Time magazine.
It must have seemed so perfect. An unknown blogger picked up on a made-up post meant as a joke, which claimed that Joe Klein had gotten his hands on 10 pages of student Obama's college thesis. Rush Limbaugh jumped on it, which immediately sparked Web searches on "obama thesis." Supposedly titled "Aristocracy Revisited," the excerpt revealed the president had "doubts" about the "so-called founders." Juicy. Except not true. Limbaugh discovered halfway through his show that he'd been had, but defended himself by saying basically the thesis felt true. Listen in to Rush's mea sorta culpa.ALERT ALERT!!! Media Matters of America embed link!!!! Joe Klein finally jumped in, and called the report "nonsense" on his Swampland blog, and the blogger who thought the hoax was real also apologized. http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/93122#comments
Gee, a Media Matters of America embed link, imagine that! You just knew that they had something to do with this! Rush will handle this on Monday and those engaging in "anti-Rush" virteol will once again have egg on their face, distracted away from Obama's agenda and onto a private citizen. Their lookin' out for you folks!
Here's what really happened:
Several interesting comments followed:
"The differences with Rush and the traditional media: Rush was very specific citing his source; Monday, this will be on top of his list of things to talk about. Contrast that with the "traditional" media."
"It worked because it's plausible." That's the "fake but accurate" defense that Dan Rather used unsuccessfully for his Bush/TXANG report. It didn't work for Rather and it won't work for Ledeen."
"Rush clearly stated that since he had been discredited by "quotes" that he never said. He like his detractors chose to believe "quotes" that fit his prior mind set. Of course the information was never taken from anything that Obama wrote, he is a stealth individual. There is nothing of substance from his high school, Occidental College, Columbia University, Harvard University, including the Harvard Law Review that he allegedly was the editor of. The question should not have been were those things that Obama wrote, but can Obama write at all, he clearly did not write his two books about his life. This raises another question, was that his real life? "
Obama has thrown the Virginia candidate for governor, Creigh Deeds, under the bus -- and the guy hasn't even lost the race yet! No losses stick to Obama. All wins, though, are his doing. Senior administration officials have expressed frustration with how Democrat R. Creigh Deeds has handled his campaign for governor, refusing early offers of strategic advice and failing to reach out to several key constituencies that helped Obama win Virginia in 2008, they say....national Democrats are contrasting Deeds with New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine and New York congressional candidate Bill Owens, who they say have more actively sought the White House's help and more vigorously and publicly backed its agenda. Polls show Corzine in a competitive position in New Jersey and Owens ahead, while Deeds has turned aggressively to Obama voters in recent days in an effort to overcome a significant deficit in the polls. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/22/AR2009102204708.html

Rasmussen:49% Say No Health Care Reform Better Than Current Plan Forty-nine percent (49%) of voters nationwide say that passing no health care reform bill this year would be better than passing the plan currently working its way through Congress. The new survey also shows that voters are skeptical that anything will be able to reduce the amount we spend on health care. If the cost of health care services comes down, 42% believe consumers will simply buy more services. Just 31% say reducing the cost of service would actually lead to less spending on health care. Twenty-seven percent (27%) are not sure.
Rasmussen:73% of GOP Voters Say Congressional GOP Has Lost Touch With Base A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 73% think Republicans in Congress have lost touch with GOP voters from throughout the nation. Twelve percent (12%) are undecided. These numbers are basically unchanged from a survey in late April. Republican women are nearly twice as likely as men to say their representatives in Congress have done a good job of representing GOP values. Younger voters tend to be less critical than their elders. Thirty-one percent (31%) of likely GOP primary voters rate economic issues as the priority in determining how they will vote, followed by 25% who see national security issues that way. Fiscal issues are most important for 15%, while 12% cite domestic issues and seven percent (7%) cultural issues.
"Americans are in a state of agitated unease. They've had enough of this delusional president who keeps demanding their lunch money and tax money while destroying their private sector." -Rush
"The Conservative hosts are FAR more popular and many more of them" Rush Limbaugh has warned us for months and years that this was coming! Back in 1987 suspension of the "Fairness Doctrine" caused Conservative talk shows to boom and liberal talk to fade! Why? Because they are popular and uplifting! Why are they popular? Proponents of the Fairness doctrine contend: Because of a lack of liberal talkers? Um, then how does this explain the failure of "Air America"?
The Obama administraiton! Takes out competion legislatively by: Controlling the Airwaves! Controlling the healthcare system! Controlling executive pay! Controlling the banks!
Controlling YOU!!!!
Progressives, get the picture yet? Eventually, even your toes will be stepped on!
Liberal, RINO candidates who might as well be Democrats. "Republicans are telling themselves that a political wave is building that could carry them to big election gains next year. Judging by their performance so far in a special election in New York, however, they deserve to wander in the minority for another generation or two."
Zuckerman: Get Used to 10% Unemployment The free market is not up to the job of creating work "Today there is no evidence of job creation. Quite the opposite: unemployment is rising and millions of jobs have disappeared. In place of thrift we have become a nation of debtors, staggering beneath mortgages that exceed the value of our homes, and credit lines that exceed our ability to repay. But the “Great Recession” has also changed the nature of unemployment, making it harder for those out of work to find a job. Only by investing in infrastructure and innovation can we mend the system."
Politico: WH Marginalized Rush, GOP Dead Democrats are heading for a crushing defeat in 2010. The only question is: How big? Politico: Obama Strategy: Marginalize Most Powerful Critics "With a series of private meetings and public taunts, the White House has targeted the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the biggest-spending pro-business lobbying group in the country; Rush Limbaugh, the country’s most-listened-to conservative commentator; and now, with a new volley of combative rhetoric in recent days, the insurance industry, Wall Street executives and Fox News."
Victor Davis Hanson:Voting Present Is Not an Option "While our Narcissus-in-Chief is frozen gazing at his perfect image in his private pool, choices have to be made in Afghanistan......Given the above, and given that George Bush made a far more difficult choice that saved Iraq, it is hard to figure out why Obama can not make a simple decision to send troops requested by commanders on the ground."
Of Course Obama Has an Enemies List! This is who these people are, Sen. Alexander. "An 'enemies list' only denigrates the Presidency and the Republic itself," Alexander said on the Senate floor. "These are unusually difficult times, with plenty of forces encouraging us to disagree. Let’s not start calling people out and compiling an enemies list. Let’s push the street-brawling out of the White House and work together on the truly presidential issues: creating jobs, reducing health care costs, reducing the debt, creating clean energy."
"Rush Limbaugh isn't going to be a part-owner of an NFL team thanks to the smears that were hurled at him by media voices and political opponents who didn't bother to see if the "evidence" against him was even true. Turns out, it wasn't.Even if what he was accused of saying was true, and it wasn't, he shouldn't have been disinvited as an investor because of beliefs or the exercise of free speech. If that is the new criteria for ownership of a sports team, then the NFL has a responsibility as the new version of the thought and speech police to investigate every investor who has even a partial bit of ownership in a team to determine if they have ever made a statement that is offensive to someone based on race, religion, ethnicity or gender."http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,568575,00.html
Study: Obama foes aren't race-driven: "Racism is not a factor driving conservative opposition to President Barack Obama, according to the results of focus groups conducted by Democracy Corps, a Democratic organization, released on Friday." “They want him to fail,” said pollster Stan Greenberg. “It’s not just a political motivation, it’s an ethical imperative given what they think Obama’s goals are.” http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1009/28399.html
The war of words between Palm Beach radio star Rush Limbaugh and New York activist Al Sharpton escalated Saturday, with the Rev saying he’s going to sue Limbaugh for defamation. Rush said on jis show: “He (Sharpton),” Limbaugh wrote, “also played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews “diamond merchants”) and the 1995 Freddie’s Fashion Mart riots.”
Today Sharpton replied: “Not only did Rush Limbaugh try to criminalize the NFL,” Sharpton told Page2Live, “but now he is saying I’m a criminal. He can call me a race-baiter and all that stuff like he does. But don’t call me a criminal.”
Hey Sharpton, regardless of what Rush said, you're still an ordained minister of the Gospel aren't you? Didn't Jesus (your Master) say the following: "Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." Matthew 7:5 And doesn't He also say in Matthew 5:39:"If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also."
For let's review a bit of Shaprton's history: The "co-Popes of black folks" are particularly disdainful of Jews. Both Sharpton and Jackson, along with NAACP President Kweisi Mfume, have embraced notorious anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan (see LINK below). Jesse Jackson has repeatedly referred to New York City as "Hymietown" because of the large numbers of Jews who live there. During the 1991 Crown Heights riots, Al Sharpton referred to Jews as "diamond merchants." Worse, during Sharpton's 1995 boycott of Jewish merchants, Morris Powell, Sharpton's spokesman, shouted to blacks passing by Freddy's clothing store in Harlem, "Keep [going] right on by Freddy's. He's one of the greedy Jew bas**rds killing our people. Don't give the Jew a dime."
Transcript: Rush Responds to Hateful Slander About His Views on Race, Slavery "If I had said what they say I said about slavery, I would be gone. Snerdley would have resigned on the spot. It's an outrageous slander. One of the things that I am proudest of this country is that we went to war with ourselves to end slavery. There is nobody I know in the whole population of this country who wishes to revive it or who defends it." -Rush
"Rev. Sharpton wants to meet with the NFL commissioner to oppose my buying the Rams. This saddens and disappoints me. I know Sharpton. He's better than this. You know, I believe in freedom and second chances. I don't discriminate. I didn't judge his fitness to be in radio when he wanted to earn an honest living for once, given his role in the Tawana Brawley hoax." -Rush
He is Rush's official "program observer" and call screener. His real name is James Golden, and he is an African-American. In February 2008, Snerdley was appointed by Limbaugh as the show's Official Criticizer of Barack Obama: "certified black enough to criticize". On the July 24th show, "Bo" was put on the air as the "Official Obama Criticizer", and spoke for roughly 5 minutes with Rush about the incident with Cambridge police
(From rushlimbaugh.com) In an inaugural full of self-congratulation, record wasting of taxpayer money and childishness, perhaps nothing was more memorable that first day of Clinton than Maya Angelou's reading of a poem. This for the man she later called "the First Black President," which wasn't much of a compliment to black Americans like the EIB Network's own Bo Snerdly.
So on the January 21, 1993 episode of Rush Limbaugh the TV Show we had a little fun. Rush welcomed Bo "Angelou" Snerdly and let him read his own poem for Bill Clinton. The audience reaction to our own poet laureate? Thunderous applause! Endless cheering! Screams of passion and tears of joy! It's moving stuff, folks. Watch and enjoy...
"The choice bits could be found in Weekend Update, where Seth Meyers deftly skewered Barack Obama's surprise Nobel Peace Prize. James Carville (hilariously impersonated by Bill Hader) ridiculed Rush Limbaugh: "Do you want to listen to this drug addict? Don't worry. He's mean and fat." This Carville added that Rush "is a terrible name for a slow, fat man."
Reminder: Rush's wil.l be interviewed on the Today Show: 7-11 a.m. ET Monday and Tuesday on NBC Our President is a Laughingstock: Obama Awarded Nobel Peace Prize
"Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government
"Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system.
"The left-wing global elite is manipulating Obama, from the UN to the Nobel committee to capitals in Europe. That's exactly what this award is: an attempt to manipulate Obama to the detriment of the United States and keep him on the path he's on toward destroying us as a superpower." -Rush
"Democratic strategist Paul Begala can be relied upon to use the “drug card” against Rush Limbaugh whenever the talk radio host is brought up, and he was true to form on Tuesday’s Situation Room. When anchor Wolf Blitzer asked what it would mean if Limbaugh bought the St. Louis Rams, Begala snarked, “Just don’t put him in charge of the team’s drug policy....Don’t give him access to that medicine cabinet” [ audio clip from the segment is available here]." http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthew-balan/2009/10/06/paul-begala-returns-bashing-rush-limbaugh-drug-reference
Greg Lewis in the American Thinker:Did We Elect a Beta Male As President? "You can't have it both ways. You can't say nobody listens to me and then say that I'm poisoning politics! You can't say, 'Stop listening to Limbaugh,' because nobody's listening because I'm poisoning politics. They're all over the board. It's the same thing, day in and day out." -Rush
Rush reminded us of his Feb. Wall Street Journal Op-Ed today:
"You have singled me out directly, admonishing members of Congress not to listen to my show. Bill Clinton has since chimed in, complaining about the lack of balance on radio. And a number of members of your party, in and out of Congress, are forming a chorus of advocates for government control over radio content.....
"On Thursday, Rush Limbaugh, the moral and intellectual leader and most influential person in the Republican Party in the United States, wrote in the august op-ed pages of The Wall Street Journal....."
"Even on the Republican side we've got, you know, frankly, people I consider loons and harmful for America: Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, all these guys. They don't control the Republican Party. "
But they themselves never claim too!!! Remember that Hall and Oats song "Out of touch"?
"It was just yesterday, Page Six in the New York Post ran a story from an unidentified source who said that nobody wants her. She's a blithering idiot. People are afraid to book her. She can't get request to do a speech. They're asking a hundred grand for speeches she can't get one invitation........then" "And then the latest news: "A publishing industry source [said] that they 'cannot remember a non-fiction book taking off like this in the pre-order market. It became number one only a couple of hours after nothing more than a date announcement. It is truly unprecedented.'" "Two days after the release date of Sarah Palin's book was announced, it's already become the top seller at both Amazon.com and BarnesAndNoble.com"
It's fair to say that Rush's next statement has been demonstrated as irrefutable:
"Liberals publish books and nobody buys them! Conservatism, if you want to use the popular vernacular, has a whole bunch of stars right now, both media and literary. Where are these liberal stars? Where are these liberal media stars? They're nowhere to be found. Their books don't sell. Their networks don't get ratings. Their magazines are losing circulation."
"So then you ask yourself: "How in the hell did these people win the election?" And then you say: "No, how did these people get ten million votes more than our candidate?" And the answer becomes obvious: Our candidate. Our candidate. This is a story of how we lost the election, how our party squandered a gold mine because they were trying to diminish and get rid of the conservative element of the Republican Party and that's why where we are we are." http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_100109/content/01125109.guest.html
For no matter how often their hollowness is exposed, the jocks still reweave the myth of their own power. They still ride the airwaves claiming to speak for millions. They still confuse listeners with voters. And they are aided in this endeavor by their enablers. They are enabled by cynical Democrats, who love to claim that Rush Limbaugh controls the G.O.P. They are enabled by lazy pundits who find it easier to argue with showmen than with people whose opinions are based on knowledge. They are enabled by the slightly educated snobs who believe that Glenn Beck really is the voice of Middle America. They pay more attention to Rush’s imaginary millions than to the real voters down the street. The Republican Party is unpopular because it’s more interested in pleasing Rush’s ghosts than actual people. The party is leaderless right now because nobody has the guts to step outside the rigid parameters enforced by the radio jocks and create a new party identity http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/02/opinion/02brooks.html?_r=2
